Fix X Login Error: Attestation Denied (Twitter)
“Login Error: Attestation Denied” means the X (formerly Twitter) app failed a device check when you tried to sign in. Before it accepts your password, X asks the app to prove it is the official, unmodified app on a device that passes integrity checks. If that proof is missing or rejected, X stops the login. The fastest fix is to log in on x.com in a browser, which doesn’t run this check, then retry the official app with your VPN off.
Some versions of the app show the internal code LoginError.AttestationDenied, sometimes followed by a string of numbers. Both are the same error.
This guide explains who gets it, what to try in which order, and what changed in 2026. For other X errors, see our X troubleshooting hub.
What does “Attestation Denied” mean on X?
“Attestation” is a security check: the app sends X’s servers a signed statement about itself and the device it runs on. X uses it to tell its own apps apart from modified clients and automated tools.
X has not documented this check or the error. What we know comes from user reports and tech coverage:
- The first wave of reports dates from late October 2025, on Android and iOS (PiunikaWeb).
- It hits at login, including when you add a second or third account to the app.
- X has made no official statement about it.
So treat any guide that claims to know exactly which system X uses, including this one, with caution.
Who gets the Attestation Denied error?
Reports cluster around a few setups:
| Setup | How often it’s reported |
|---|---|
| Modified X clients (ReVanced builds, NeoFreeBird, PikoTwitter) | Most reports |
| X Lite on Android | Several reports |
| Rooted phones and custom Android systems (GrapheneOS, LineageOS, /e/OS) | Recurring threads on their forums (GrapheneOS, XDA, /e/OS) |
| Official app with a VPN, an outdated version, or many accounts logged in | Some reports |
If you use the official app on a stock phone and still see it, the fixes below usually get you back in.
How do you fix Attestation Denied on X?
Try these steps in order. The first two solve most cases reported with the official app.
- Log in on the web. Open x.com in your phone or computer browser and sign in. The website doesn’t use the app’s attestation check, so it’s the quickest way back to your account.
- Change your password on the web, then sign in to the app with the new one. Several users report this unblocked the official app, especially with two-factor authentication on. PiunikaWeb described it in December 2025 as the only fix that kept working for unmodified apps (PiunikaWeb).
- Turn off your VPN, proxy or private DNS, then retry.
- Update the official X app from the App Store or Google Play. If it still fails, uninstall it and install it again.
- Remove extra accounts from the app, sign in with one account, then add the others back one at a time.
- Switch to the official app if you use a modified client or X Lite (see the next section).
- Contact X support if nothing works. Give them your device model, your system version and the exact error text. Expect slow answers.
Advice you’ll see elsewhere, such as clearing Google Play Services or factory-resetting your phone, has no confirmed results for this error. Don’t wipe your phone for it.
Can you still log in with a modded X client?
Not reliably. The developers of these clients and X have been going back and forth since late 2025:
- November 2025: NeoFreeBird shipped a build that worked if the login screen offered “Sign in with username”. X then appears to have removed that login flow from its apps.
- December 2025: NeoFreeBird confirmed that its password-reset workaround no longer worked.
- March 2026: X extended attestation to posting. Users of NeoFreeBird, PikoTwitter and, briefly, X Lite couldn’t post, reply or quote, and saw repeated “failed to send post” errors. X rolled the change back for a short time, then third-party clients were blocked again by March 11 (PiunikaWeb).
If you rely on a modded client, plan on using x.com in a browser as your fallback.
Is Attestation Denied a ban?
No. It doesn’t mean your account is suspended or locked: the check is about the app and device, not your account. If you can log in on x.com and your profile looks normal, your account is fine.
If x.com shows a suspension or a request to verify your phone or email, you have a different problem. See account suspended or locked on X. And if you can log in but your posts seem invisible, run our free shadowban test.
Frequently asked questions
What does "Attestation Denied" mean on X?
The X app couldn’t prove to X’s servers that it is a genuine, unmodified app running on a device that passes integrity checks, so X refused the login. Your password may be correct: the login stops before that matters.
Why do I get "LoginError.AttestationDenied" in the X app?
Most reports come from modified X clients (such as ReVanced builds or NeoFreeBird), the X Lite app, rooted phones and custom Android systems like GrapheneOS or LineageOS. Some people with the official app report it too, often with a VPN on or an outdated app.
How do I fix Attestation Denied on X?
Log in on x.com in a browser first, which doesn’t run the app check. Then update or reinstall the official app, turn off your VPN, and sign in again. Users report that changing your password on the web before signing in to the app helps.
Can I still use a modded X client?
Not reliably. Workarounds for modded clients have stopped working one after another since November 2025, and in March 2026 X extended the check to posting. The X website remains the most reliable alternative.
Has X said anything about Attestation Denied?
Not as of November 2026. X hasn’t published a help article about this error, so everything known comes from user reports, forum threads and tech press.
